Last weekend I received a long awaited phone call. My great friend Jayme was headed to the hospital to have her third child and the anticipation was more than I could stand. You see, she has an older daughter Molly who is just a few months younger than Elle. She also has a younger daughter Morgan who is a few months older than Maye. The entire Walker family has had quite the run of girls being born lately, so when Jayme and Brett gave birth to a son, Ty, the entire family rejoiced (especially the oldest cousin, Ben, who was the only boy up to this point).

Anyway, I l-o-v-e getting to run to the hospital to photograph my sweet girlfriends as they are painstakingly bringing a new child into their family. Its the only way that they will ever remember what actually went on.

Our community group of nine families has really grown over the years. According to our calculations, after the addition of Ty and a couple others on the way, we will have 43 men, women, and children all in our group as of 2011. That’s practically a small church. We are so very blessed. Congrats Walker family!

this story started several years ago when i was a young mom of two little kids, and one another on the way. jenn saw me pushing an overflowing shopping cart with two kids in tow and God said to her, ‘you need to be friends with that girl.’ praise the Lord she did! jenn was a single girl who loved kids and so i let her borrow mine whenever she needed a baby fix. we laughed together, cried together, worked out together, and just shared our lives with one another.

a few years later, jenn met dan, and i had the privilege of shooting their wedding (i wish i was blogging back then, because it was gorgeous!) a few months later, jenn came over to my house and told me some news, dan had gotten a new job at a church in Oklahoma City and they were going to be moving away. my heart sank because i knew it would be a great job for their family, but the thought of living without her was so sad! i’m not sure who had a tougher time, me or my kids. they LOVED jenn and dan so much.

when jenn told me that she was pregnant, i squealed with excitement. by this time my babies that she had grown up loving were off to elementary school and it was her turn to navigate the newborn stage. the day that jenn was induced at the hospital, my phone never left my side. dan kept me updated with text messages on how she was doing. i made a crazy decision…i went to my kids school, loaded them up in the car and i drove my family it OKC to be there for jenn and the birth of her daughter everleigh. i was so sad that i missed the actual birth (jenn was with me for my daughter maye’s birth) but we stayed in the hospital room for several hours and got to enjoy their first few moments as parents.

about six months ago Erika called me and asked if i would consider coming into the delivery room on the day of her son’s birth. Erika is also a local photographer and so she knew how special some pictures of a birth can be. i have been around a few times during the birth of a new child and Kori Hudson also took some pictures for me when my youngest daughter, Maye was born.

anyway, the emotions on a birth-day range from the tops of the mountain to the bottom of the sea. husband and wife, toiling together to bring into the world a new life. the pain is indescribable but the joy at the end eclipses it completely. Erika, i’m so proud of you and i know you and TW will be so blessed as parents!

quote of the night…as Erika was entering the final stages of her labor, her husband TW (a football coach at hunstville) looked at the nurses and said, “oh, can we call a timeout?” ha!

double diaper changing. double car seats. double clothes. double the smiles. double(x2) ear infections! so double the craziness but also double the joy. reagan needed a picture for their party invitation, and it was a great excuse to get the girls all dolled up for the camera. what a delicious delightful shot we grabbed!

on Sunday we celebrated the 2nd birthday of our third child. my my how life screams right past us. in no way did i ever think that we would experience life this way. we are about to enter into the ‘two kids are in school’ stage, which will be largely unpopular with our little Maye.

she turned 2 on Sunday and i think immediately turned on the terribles. we have ourselves a little opinionated, selective-hearing, dare to defy mom and dad little girl on our hands. she is such a treasure and always keeps us entertained. she is a 4 year old trapped in a 2 year old body. fearless, creative, and always ready to sing, dance, and investigate what’s on the other side of the door.

our sweet little Maye at about one week old…

not much more hair at one year, but the teeth and grin are adorable!

thanks to the utterly fabulous rick’s bakery for keeping our family fully supplied with sugary substances.

we’ve collected quite a few younger sisters over the past few years amongst our friends. see what i mean, terrible twos showed UP on Sunday!

January through March is always the “off-season” here in nw arkansas. the weather is too cold, all the fun landscaping is gone, tans have faded, and people seem stuck in the ‘where did Christmas go’ lull that always lasts too long. thank goodness for spring! as the new portrait season is quickly approaching (and weddings soon to follow) i decided that a quick look back was in order.

it is always such a fulfilling experience to sift back through the years worth of pictures that i had the pleasure of taking. moms & dads, brothers & sisters, those in love, and the one week olds have a way of reminding us of the better moments in life. it was such joy to be a part of so many different families and share in their season of memory. i love what i do! it is such a blessing, and here’s why…

katie and i go way back which made this photo shoot such a treat. both of our older sisters were best friends in college. we shared that little sister bond, watching our older sisters cheer for the University of Arkansas.

fun fact about katie: her granddad actually started the printing company that i’ve been using for my picture printing needs. millerslab has been such a huge part of my business over the years and allows me to upload everything from home and then the pictures are at my door two days later! with “millers” being available only to select photographers, they also opened a division called mpix several years ago that allows the everyday family to have access to most of their amazing products. all this and we have katie’s granddad to thank for it!
