portrait info

steps 1-2-3-4

  • i like to think of my portrait process as two halves. i own the first half and then my assistant sarah owns the other half. i photograph and edit. she handles the viewing and ordering.
  • from the time i receive an email or phone call, i will be the one to set up the date, time, and location. any dreams, ideas, or themes that you have, i’d love to know about! we will spend all the time necessary (usually between 1-2 hours) photographing and then i will take the pictures home to sort, sift, and edit. i generally have the pictures ready to view within 1-2 weeks and then that’s where sarah picks up…
  • sarah will set a time for you to come to my home to view your pictures and place your order. please be ready to order when you come for your viewing session! in order to help this process move a little quicker, sarah will send you a link 48 hrs before your session for you to view your pictures online. this can help you get an idea of your favorites as well as give out of town family members a chance to see which ones they’d like to order. once you place your order, we will order your pictures and they will be in your hands with 10 days.

helpful things to know

  • we do not charge sitting fees! we want all of the money that you spend to go directly to the pictures that you want to buy. we do have a $475 minimum purchase order for each client who books us for a photo session. please check out our pricing page for all that information.
  • think about what ‘look’ you might like to have for your portrait session. i love the outdoor urban setting, but i’ve been everywhere. from downtown fayetteville to a park in bentonville, i’ve done it all. old buildings and classy new architecture are always a favorite of mine. let me know what kind of style and the feel that you are going for during your shoot and i’ll be able to make some suggestions. send me and email and we’ll talk. *remember, lighting is everything!
  • if i’m being honest, i’ve got a wild and crazy life. three kids keep me on my toes at all times. email is generally the best way to get a hold of me, but i’m not allergic to talking on the phone either.
  • because i only shoot 2-3 days a week, i always suggest getting our date on the calendar 1-3 months in advance.  please take this into consideration when selecting the season in which you want your pictures taken. the fall months (september – november) are the peak season for portrait photography so please plan accordingly for things like family christmas pictures.

clothing suggestions

  • choosing your clothing should be easy. We want to capture who you are, so pick outfits that bring out the best you. solid colors stand out best. try and stay away from crazy stripes or patterns. also, try to limit the color white because a dominate white outfit will cause the exposure of the picture to be incorrect. If you’re into accessories feel free to bring your favorite hat, jacket, scarf, jewelry, or pet.
  • the main family picture suggestion is this: do NOT try to match (black, white, denim.) Choose colors that coodinate: bright solid shirts, greys of varying shades, or “fall” colors for example.
  • how many outfits should you bring? usually seniors bring two or three clothing options. couples and families generally stick to one set of clothes but occasionally bring both a casual and dressy outfit. children do best when they don’t have to spend time changing outfits. make sure to bring something that is special to them, a hat, stuffed animal, or tutu would be great. moms, you know your kids best!
