In the Park and On the Town

When the sun had turned us all red, we headed into town a few afternoons to play at the park and roam around. We also were fortunate to have live music in Seaside on the last night we were there. After lots of bikes, dancing, bubbles, hot dogs, seafood, balloon hats, snow cones and “FUN” we called it a week.

Watercolor, FL Bike Ride

For our vacation to Florida this summer with our friends, all the dads packed up the family bikes and waited for that perfect morning. It was a little too cool to hit the beach after breakfast, so we headed over to the adorable beach town of Watercolor. It was a bit like a fairytale, riding around, laughing, looking at all the houses all while smelling the sea breeze. It was a morning that the parents (especially) will always remember.

10 Year Anniversary

This one might be too much. It is way over the top. Probably too personal. Completely embarrassing. A look back on a person and a time that I can scarcely remember.

Finley and I celebrated our Ten Year Anniversary over the weekend. 2 Apartments, 2 Houses, and 3 kids later, we find ourselves looking back on people that we once knew. We laugh at how our faces have changed, our humor has changed, and our life experiences have drastically changed. We are both better for it and couldn’t be more blessed than we are.

So, a trip down memory lane. These are some dating, bridal, engagement, and wedding pictures that Finley pulled up for me on our anniversary. My sister Kym was just getting started into photography at the time, so of course we volunteered every time we visited her in Kansas City. She also was my Maid of Honor / Photographer at my wedding. (Note to myself 10 years ago, hire a good & available photographer for your wedding. You’ll appreciate the pictures). I can’t believe how different and young we both look. I didn’t really feel like editing or cropping anything. They are just straight off the disk that we found.

Mother’s Day

For me, my Mother’s Day came a bit early this year. My family and I returned late last night from Seaside, FL after a beautiful and wonderful week at the beach. I’m going through all the pictures we took and will be sharing some of the stories soon and posting them on our facebook page as well.

Finley and I loved our time with our kids and the families that we shared a house with. He took me out to dinner for a date on Thursday night to Rosemary Beach. We ate seafood, listened to the rock ballads of the 90s that played on the radio, and came up with an “award” for everyone on our trip.

Sadly, and too my kids great disappointment, we had to leave and come home. Maye was over heard multiple times saying, we are going back to our beach house now, right? She asked in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas. We loved it there.

Today was spent unpacking and we finished it up with a FREE Mother’s Day snow cone from Shave the Planet. I am so blessed to have a man who loves me and three growing kids who need their ‘mommy’ in hundreds of different ways. Being a mom is the greatest and most privileged calling a woman can have.

Sassy Sisterhood

Every Wednesday all over NWA, small pockets of students gather together to talk life, laugh, help each other along, discuss the Bible, pray, and, did I mention laugh? I’ve recently started spending some more time with a few sophomores at FHS. I know most of them from my family’s time in Guatemala over spring break. These girls can really “roar” as my husband says.

They have endless amounts of teenage energy and are trying to figure out what life is all about at 16. These girls are all stunning and a tremendous blessing in my life. Some days I wish I was that young again. I love how they just stop by my house, help me dye Easter eggs with my kids, and talk about getting their drivers license.

One girl (Maggie) had a birthday a few nights ago. So…they grabbed their heels, skirts, and headed out for some birthday fun. Of course they needed a couple more places to prance around, so they stopped by my house. It wasn’t long before we had the studio popping off flashes left and right as the girls were working it out. Too much fun! I’m afraid my 7 year old might be watching too closely.

Family Friday :: Shrimp Boil

On Friday night, my o-so-special brother in law requested a shrimp boil for his family birthday meal. Apparently he grew up with this sort of thing often, but it was definitely my first time. Think 1yr old eating habits meets a pack of lions.

We all gathered around a table (which we first lined with trash bags and butcher paper.) We dumped the contents of two huge pots where we had boiled all kinds of tasty treasures. Shrimp, crab legs, potatoes, corn and sausage. Each person had a dipping cup with melted butter and we had ourselves a feast. What a way to celebrate a birthday.

A Baby Boy joins our Community

Last weekend I received a long awaited phone call. My great friend Jayme was headed to the hospital to have her third child and the anticipation was more than I could stand. You see, she has an older daughter Molly who is just a few months younger than Elle. She also has a younger daughter Morgan who is a few months older than Maye. The entire Walker family has had quite the run of girls being born lately, so when Jayme and Brett gave birth to a son, Ty, the entire family rejoiced (especially the oldest cousin, Ben, who was the only boy up to this point).

Anyway, I l-o-v-e getting to run to the hospital to photograph my sweet girlfriends as they are painstakingly bringing a new child into their family. Its the only way that they will ever remember what actually went on.

Our community group of nine families has really grown over the years. According to our calculations, after the addition of Ty and a couple others on the way, we will have 43 men, women, and children all in our group as of 2011. That’s practically a small church. We are so very blessed. Congrats Walker family!

Ok. I admit it. I’m caught. I can get a little sassy at weddings some times. I think it was all those years on the pom squad at the UofA. Sometimes the mood just strikes me. Other times, my sister gives me that look at it becomes a quick dance off. Either way, a mom of the bride reminded me the other day about this moment during her daughters wedding. I’ve been found out!

our family headed out to the annual FSM barn bash again this year. we probably lasted shorter than ever given that our kids were cold, tired, and hungry, but of course we managed to update our catalog of photo booth pictures while we were there. snap, crackle, pop!
